Safeguarding

Safer working practices in the arts, training for venues, consultancy and support.

TiPP approach the safeguarding agenda with a deep and lived understanding of how it is translated into creative arts practice. We have used our experience and expertise to deliver a range of safeguarding and safer practices courses and develop policies for venues and project teams both regionally and nationally. In the last year we have delivered sessions for Curious Minds, The Lowry, INTO Film (BFI), Oldham Coliseum, CAN, The Edge, Bolton Octagon, Contact (Future Fires), Balletboyz and the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse (to name a few).

Our safeguarding specialists are Simon Ruding (Director of TiPP) and Rachel Graham (Project Director, Music). Simon is a drama practitioner and has been a safeguarding advisor for twelve years. He was one of ACE's Keeping Arts Safe trainers and was a trainer for Stockport's Local Safeguarding Children Board for ten years.  Rachel is a music specialist and an NSPCC accredited trainer. She has delivered training for all levels of organisational staff from board members to volunteers. She created new, bespoke safeguarding policies and procedures for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (in response to the changing activities of the organisation and incorporating new legislation), developed a code of conduct and delivered training for musicians and staff.

The general introduction is useful for all staff, even those not working directly with children and / or vulnerable adults.  Some companies and venues may want to take a comprehensive approach, others may want a course specifically designed for their participatory practitioners. We also deliver training for  Boards of Trustees (something that is increasingly in demand given the Charity Commission's position on safeguarding).  If we are working with a specific team we can tailor the discussion to your practice and particular concerns.

As well as training we are available to provide advice and guidance on the development and reviewing of policies and procedures.  Drop us a line if you would like to know more.

TiPP provided us with a team awareness session and bespoke support to update all our policies. It was an invaluable service, they really know their stuff and most importantly, they ‘get it’. No wasted time on info or process that isn’t relevant for our kind of work.

It is commendable that the charity has such wide-ranging, comprehensive and informative policies, to assist all involved with the charity to correctly engage in its activities.
