Moments in Transit
It all starts with a Manchester city centre railway station
Moments in Transit is an exhibition of photographs in Deansgate Railway Station taken by some of Manchester’s most underserved young people.
The extraordinary images capture moments of the ever-changing street art in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, a snapshot of how a city interacted with its artwork and of how the seemingly mundane street furniture becomes a part of the creativity. The diverse images offer moments of vibrancy, moments of calm and moments of colour as passengers transit through the station, just as the project offered young people moments of creativity, moments of reflection and moments of growth in their journey from child to adult.
The exhibition was officially opened by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham on Monday 2nd September 2024.
The talented young photographers who took these images were all part of the partnership between TiPP and Manchester Youth Justice Service. Our work together offers moments of connection between young people and their city in support of their journey from negative behaviours to aspirational futures. Part of that transition is them being accepted into the community and having their voices heard, this exhibition prominently places their work in one of Manchester’s busiest transport hubs in a powerful demonstration of the value of their views.
If you are inspired by the work of these young photographers, consider supporting them by donating to TiPP so that we[can continue to support young people’s journeys.
If you use the station and see the images, take some photos of the exhibition and share them with us on[2] social media.
TiPP would like to thank Transport for Greater Manchester, Northern, and Community Rail Network for their support in realising this exhibition.
